Karen L. Oberst, Freelance Writer - Poetry - Where Am I Going?

Where Am I Going?
by Karen L. Oberst

The ass tied to the millstone
Walks round and round
Miles and miles
And ends up where it started

I went to the library every day
Ordered books and sent them on
Over and over
And ended up where I started.

Sometimes my life seems that way still -
Email, research, peddling, gardening
Day in, day out
And start again tomorrow.

Lord, grant that I am traveling
In a spiral, not a circle
Growing into my true self
Not just marking time.

Grant me a vision, Lord
Show me the way to go
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
May I move closer to the goal.

Teach me to go deeper and higher
To see and hear the truth
To recognize reality
And to grow in you.
